I could not have put it better myself. Agree with nearly every word, and those that don't exactly describe me are close enough as makes no difference.
I've quietly - "struggled with" is wrong, perhaps "shrugged off, reluctantly" - this issue for many years. And now I have a name for it! "Generation Jones"... I like it.
This whole desperate desire to label people just leads to all sorts of misconceptions in general, and this is a fine example.
Hi Mark. I really struggled with how to frame this post. It's too easy to fall into the "these kids today don't know how good they have it / they just need to stop spending so much" trope. That is patently unfair because the barriers to achieving even the basics (like owning a home) are very real. But as you say, our generation did not have an easy ride
We did not get to ride the wave of the post-war boom. We endured some difficult challenges. In the end, I decided to release the article (it had been sitting as a draft for many weeks) but added the call-out at the end to reinforce my understanding that today's young people are probably finding it harder than we did. Good to hear from you and hope to catch up wjen6we return to Australia.

I think you did a more than admirable job of walking the fine line. and it very clearly IS a fine line.
On your return to these shores, a catch up is a must.
